Ten Years for a Tweet: Join the Campaign to #FreeAhmed

Ahmed Mansoor is one of the world’s most prominent human rights defenders. Over the years he has worked extensively with international organisations to advocate for basic civil and political rights in the United Arab Emirates and has a seat on the advisory committee at Human Rights Watch.

In May 2018, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for “defaming the UAE through social media channels.”

Prior to this he was held for over a year in an unverified location without charge and denied access to a lawyer.

His current detention location remains unknown. This places him at grave risk of torture and other forms of ill-treatment.

Ahmed’s case has sparked international condemnation, notably from several United Nations human rights bodies, the EU Parliament’s subcommittee on Human Rights, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the professor and linguist, Noam Chomsky.

In reality, all that Ahmed is guilty of is raising awareness of the systematic human rights violations in his country. He must be freed!
