After year of detention, Ahmed Mansoor brought to court

Prominent human rights defender Ahmed Mansoor has been brought to trial in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after more than a year in detention without charge, the Gulf Center for Human Rights revealed.

Arrested on the 20th March 2017, Mansoor has been held for over a year in an unverified location without access to a lawyer and is yet to be officially charged by authorities.

His Whereabouts remained unknown despite numerous calls of rights groups for his immediate and unconditional release over the past year.

On the first anniversary of his arrest, over 20 NGOs, including Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and Human Rights Watch, have released a joint-statement calling upon Emirati authorities to “immediately and unconditionally” release the award-winning human rights defender Ahmed Mansoor.
