Arrest Anniversary of two Emirati activists

Arrest Anniversary of two Emirati activists

While the Arab spring was blooming in several countries starting from 2011, several Emiratis called for an elected parliament, legislative powers for the Federal National Council and for democracy.

The UAE government responded to this call with a wave of massive arrests of the reform advocates which broke in starting from March 2012. However the official charges against them were not made public until January 2013.

The group of arrested activists included economists, judges , lawyers, and academics. And today marks the arrest anniversary of Saeed Nasser AlWahidi who was a professor before his detention in 2012 and Ali Abdullah Mahdi al-Manie also arrested in 2012.

These two belong to the 94 arrested Emiratis of the UAE94 unfair trial.
