ASMIS cannot hide media violations in UAE

The UAE is hosting the Arab Social Media Influencers Summit (#arabsmis) in Dubai amid growing international concern over the fate of scores of social media activists in the country.

The summit is the third of its kind where social media influencers from all over the Arab region gathered together for networking opportunities, panels and discussions.

However, the summit has been held while several Emirati and Arab activists are continued to be detained for using Twitter to draw attention to rights violations committed by the UAE authorities.

The leading Emirati rights activists Ahmed Mansoor and Nasser Bin Ghaith have also been sentenced to 10 years in prison for criticizing the government in social media posts.
