As Bin Ghaith’s case has been transferred to Federal Appeal Court, rights groups fear for his health

Human rights groups voiced Wednesday their deep concern over the health situation of prominent Emirati economist and academic Dr. Nasser bin Ghaith after reports have recently affirmed his health serious deterioration.

Dr. Naser Bin Ghaith is scheduled to appear today, Wednesday the 18th of January 2017, for the first time at the Federal Appeal Court in Abu Dhabi for the first time since his detention in August 2015.

Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) has recently received information that the Emirati government has deprived Dr. bin Ghaith of urgent medical treatment and has held him in conditions that fail to meet international standards for the treatment of prisoners.

ADHRB strongly condemns the ongoing arbitrary detention and ill treatment of Dr. bin Ghaith and calls for his immediate release.

For its part, the International Centre for Justice and Human Rights (ICJHR) expressed its concern about the case of Dr. Nasser Bin Ghaith, and called  on the UAE officials to release him immediately and unconditionally and to provide him with the adequate and prompt health care and guarantee his physical and psychological integrity.

Along the same line, the Gulf Centre for Human Rights (GCHR) is deeply concerned about the health of Emirati academic Dr. Nasser Bin Ghaith, who remains in prison in the United Arab Emirates under extremely harsh conditions which fail to meet the minimum standards for international prison conditions.
