Clarificiation about VPN use in the UAE

Several News Media clarified today certain confusion points about the amended law of VPN use following the release of a statement by the authority in response to enquiries it received from companies and institutions.

The statement said that there's no restriction on the legal use of Virtual Private Networks (VPN) in the UAE, but those who misuse it for crime and fraudulent purposes will be held accountable

The real problem is that the definition of crime remains murky when it comes to the UAE as many Emiratis and foreigners have been kept in detention for basically no reason but have been treated as "criminals" because they called for reform and advocated for human rights.

Speaking your opinion might be considered as a crime. Doing something that the authorities don't like might also be considered as a crime. Being the relative of a prisoner of conscience might also end up being a crime.

The way the law was stated obviously implies punishment for VPN use, regardless of the exact reasons behind this use. Wouldn't it be more accurate if the legistlation authorities clearly included all ban cases while wording the law as to avoid any law manipulation that might eventually occur ?

Even though the authorities has given assurances about this law, it is important to note that they should have paid more intention to the actual way the law was written as to dismiss all suspicion.
