Donation campaign launched to pay Tayseer al-Najjar’s fine
The wife of the Jordanian journalist Tayseer al-Najjar, who is serving a 3-year prison sentence in UAE jails, launched a donation campaign to pay a court-imposed fine.
After more than a year without trial or access to a lawyer, al-Najjar was sentenced on March 15, 2017, to prison and a large fine on charges related to Facebook posts in which he criticized Egypt, Israel, and Gulf countries.
Majida Hourani, al-Najjar[‘s wife, called in a Facebook post for mass participation in the donation campaign so that she can pay her husband’s fine estimated at 500,000 UAE dinars (equivalent to around $136,130).
