Emirati man arrested for posting a poem on social media

Legal action have been taken against an Emirati man known as ‘Poet of Sensations’ in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for posting a poem on social media.

‘Poet of Sensations’ misused technology and social media platforms to breach public order and morality, claimed a press release issued by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

The prosecutor’s office said that the man would stand trial in due course.

This step comes within the framework of Article 29 of the UAE’s 2012 cyber crime law  which provides for prison sentences of between 3 and 15 years for online activism.

The UAE is the first country in the Middle East to implement such a widely-condemned cyber law.
