Emirati woman denied medical treatment in UAE jails

The UAE authorities continue to deny the Emirati prisoner Alia Abdul Nour, 40, access to the appropriate medical treatment since her arrest on 28 July 2015.

Alia, who is suffering from cancer, was arrested and taken from her family house for unknown reasons and held in solitary confinement for almost four months, where she was subjected to daily investigation and severe torture.

She was held handcuffed and blindfolded with no contact with the outside world.

In December 2015, she was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for allegedly contacting “terrorist groups” on social media.

Alia was moved to Wathba prison where she was denied family or lawyer visits for two months.

After a whole year, she was transferred to a government hospital as her cancer spread and her health deteriorated rapidly due to her unbearable detention conditions.

In hospital, Alia has been only receiving pain killers with no medical treatment for her chronic disease.

Alia’s family has launched an appeal to save their daughter’s life before it is too late.
