Has the United States abandoned its commitment to human rights?

That White House received last week Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, head of the notorious State Security Apparatus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Bin Zayed's visit came in midst of the UAE's continued human rights abuses. However, it's embarrassing human rights record was not addressed during the meeting.

Online activists criticised the US for receiving repressive leaders, saying that "the White House should be place where the world’s top civil society leaders are celebrated, not a place where repressive leaders are legitimized."
