Join the Ahmed Mansoor Vigil on 19 October

Join us, Amnesty International UK, the Gulf Centre for Human Rights, and English PEN on Saturday, October 19th at 3 pm outside the Emirati Embassy as we protest for the freedom of imprisoned human rights defender Ahmed Mansoor to mark his 50th birthday.

Following the demonstration, Amnesty International UK will be holding a panel discussion from 17:00-18:30 titled ‘Human Rights in the UAE: Repression at Home and Abroad.`` Issues discussed will include Ahmed Mansoor, academic freedom with Matthew Hedges, the UAE’s war in Yemen, and the UAE and Libya.

Mansoor is currently on hunger strike and his health is in serious jeopardy. As such, it is critical, now more than ever, that we coalesce and fight to secure his immediate and unconditional release.

Mansoor was arrested in 2017 and held in an unknown location for over a year without access to a lawyer. In May 2018 he was sentenced to ten years in prison for a series of tweets condemning the human rights record of the UAE.

While held in al-Sadr prison he has consistently been subject to torture and mistreatment. We cannot allow this treatment to continue and urge you to join us on Saturday, October 19th at 3 pm as we unite to #FreeAhmed.
