Leading rights activist Ahmed Mansour arrested in Dubai

The 2015 Laureate Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders Ahmed Mansour was arrested late Sunday (March 19, 2017) in Dubai and transferred him to an unknown place, MENA Rights Cable revealed.

According to the sources, the leading human rights activist Mansour was arrested shortly after he signed, along with other human rights defenders from Arab countries, a letter addresssed to the Arab summit to be held in Jordan on March 29, calling to release prisoners of conscience and promote and protect human rights in the Arab world.

Due to his human rights work and his defense of political activists of all backgrounds, over the  past years Ahmed Mansour was the target of continual harassment and surveillance proceedings. He has been subjected to arbitrary arrests and travel ban.

UAE residents known to have spoken with international rights groups are at serious risk of arbitrary detention and imprisonment.
