Moroccan worker taken to mental health hospital after exposing migrant workers’ conditions in UAE

The UAE authorities have taken the Moroccan worker Abdel Hay Najjari to a hospital for mental health early this month after he exposed the violations against migrant workers’ rights in the country.

“Najjari has been badly treated in the hospital and was forced to take medicaments against his will,” his brother reported.

“Najjari travelled to the UAE to work as a security officer for a private company, however once he reached he was surprised by the terrible working and living conditions of migrant workers in the country,” he added.

“This pushed him to record a video detailing the violations they were subjected to.”

In the video, Najjari complained of the exploitation and ill-treatment by his employers, and further denounced the low wages of workers for the cost of living and poor housing conditions there.

After he published the video on social media, the UAE authorities confiscated his passport and took him to a mental health hospital.
