Nasser Bin Ghaith's whereabouts still unknown

The UAE authorities continue to hide the place of detention of the prominent Emirati academic Nasser Bin Ghaith after he was moved earlier this month from Al-Razeen prison to an undisclosed location.

Rights activists said that the move came as a punitive measure to exert more pressure on Bin Ghaith to break his hunger strike launched on April 2.

Bin Ghiath had earlier decided, in an open letter from Al-Sadr prison in Abu Dhabi, to go on an open-ended hunger strike shortly after being sentenced to ten years in prison for the peaceful expression of his conscientiously held beliefs.

In his letter, Bin Ghiath demanded his unconditional release and travel along with his family .

It is worth mentioning that, since his hunger strike declaration, UAE authorities have prevented all visits from his family and lawyer.

On the second anniversary of Bin Ghaith's arbitrary detention by UAE security forces on 18 August 2015, ICFUAE released a statement demanding his immediate and unconditional release.
