Petition calls on UAE authorities to allow family visits to Ahmed Mansoor
An online petition was launched by rights organizations calling on UAE authorities to allow family visits to the prominent human rights defender Ahmed Mansoor during Eid al-Adha days.
207 signatures have been reported till time of writing.
It is worth to mention that Ahmed Mansoor, one of the last standing figures of Emirati civil society, has been denied family visits since his arrest on March 20.
Mansoor’s family remains uncertain of both his whereabouts and also the conditions in which he is being held, and has only been allowed one supervised visit since his abduction.
Amid allegations that Mansoor has been held in solitary confinement since his abduction, human rights advocates have voiced their fear that he may be subjected to torture as punishment for his outspokenness or in order to force him to confess to “crimes” he did not commit.
