Rights group calls for Abdulrahman Binsobeih's release

International Center for Justice and Human Rights has called on the UAE authorities to release the human rights activist Abdulrahman Bin Sobeih.

Bin Sobeih was sentenced last week to 10 years of imprisonment and three years of administrative control following his detention on the alleged charges of belonging to a "secret organization".

The man was first tried in absentia in 2013 with other 94 human rights activists and later kidnapped while applying for asylum in Indonesia.

Abdulrahman has been held by UAE authorities since his deportation from Indonesia on 18 December 2015. The man was applying for asylum when he was arrested by Indonesian police for his illegal entry into the country.

He was then deported back to Abu Dhabi where he was forcibly disappeared for months, held in a secret location without access to a lawyer nor contact with the outside world.

The International Centre for Justice and Human Rights condemned his deportation and disappearance as illegal.
