A so-called peaceful UAE that has a long record of convicting innocent activists

The United Arab Emirates often uses its affluence to mask the government’s serious human rights violations. In this context some international organisations seem to still buy the lies of this so-called peaceful nation.

Dr. Hanif Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, has commended the UAE human rights experience, deeming it a model of peaceful co-existence among 200 nationalities living on its territory.

He also explained on a second level that states and governments lose their credibility due to their double standards in tackling the human rights file, which should be dealt with according to the criteria and foundations of neutrality, impartiality and clear-cut respect for views and beliefs.

Perhaps the Geneva centre should also take into account the tons of -also- peaceful activistis who were wrongfully abducted by UAE authorities from their families, jobs and mainly lives to be thrown behind bars after going through a daily nightmare of physical assault and torture. It's high time that the UAE lost its credibility in the same double-standards mantra the Geneva centre just mentioned.

Needless to remind that this country which is being hailed for being peaceful and respectful to human rights has tortured and convicted innocent Emiratis who peacefully expressed their opinions and has prooved to lag far behind even when it came to respecting the rights of international citizens such as Egyptians and Britons.
