Tayseer al-Najjar’s wife appeals for his release

Jordanian journalist Tayseer Al-Najjar’s wife, Majeda Hourani, has called on the Arab Media Forum to adopt her husband’s case.

It is worth mentioning that the Arab Media Forum was held in Dubai on the 3rd and 4th of April 2018, under the auspices of UAE Vice President Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The forum includes discussions about the media’s influence on significant regional files and developments. It will also highlight the impact of regional instabilities on the Arab media, and examine media professionals’ challenges in reporting the news ethically and responsibly.

In this regard, Hourani called on the forum to shed light on her husband’s unfair case and to highlight the violations he faced during his detention in UAE jails for peacefully exercising his right of freedom of speech.

Al-Najjar was sentenced last year to 3 years imprisonment over ‘damaging the reputation of the UAE and it’s symbols’. He has also been fined 500,000 UAE dinars (equivalent to around $136,130) and is due to be deported back to Jordan after he serves his prison sentence.
