Theresa May's speech in GCC ignores human rights issues
Theresa May addressed on Wednesday the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) and spoke about how the UK will step up its relationship with the GCC countries.
However, the embarrassing human rights record of the Gulf countries including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was absent from the speech.
No single word was mentioned about human rights issues in May's speech, raising concerns over the UK Government’s commitments to human rights values.
Human rights groups have earlier written to the UK Prime Minister urging her to raise the issue of rights violation with key Gulf allies.
