Three weeks after completing his sentence, Saeed Al-Buraimi remains in prison

Emirati prisoner of conscience Saeed Al-Buraimi remains in unlawful detention, despite having completed his five-year jail sentence more than three weeks ago.

Al-Buraimi was arrested in March 2013 and later sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of cybercrimes for his Twitter activities.

He was due to be released on 02 March 2019, but the Emirati authorities have extended his detention indefinitely, without trial or due process.

Al-Buraimi's case is not the first of its kind. Osama Al-Najjar also remains detained, despite completing his three-year prison sentence over two years ago. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Mulla, Badr Al-Bahri and Abdullah Al-Helou also find themselves in a similar situation, all of whom remain imprisoned despite having served their prison terms.
