TV program reveals nightmare of British citizens in UAE

An investigation broadcasted on Monday by Al-Araby TV revealed that many Britons who travelled to the UAE for work or business purposes are facing a nasty nightmare.

The investigation team documented the testimonies and stories of a large number of former and current prisoners in the UAE. Some of them left prison only after they had suffered; some others are either still locked behind prison walls or have lost their lives or have been subjected to severe torture, the Middle East Monitor said.

Many found themselves detained and interrogated for various reasons and faced inhumane treatment conditions during which various methods of torture were used and human rights violations were committed.

According to the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, more than 100,000 British citizens live in the UAE, in addition to other 1.5 million who visit it each year.
