Two Americans Tortured in UAE Did Not Get their Apology Yet

Father and son Kamal and Mohamed Eldarat, who family says were ‘kidnapped’ from home, said that they have survived mock executions, electric shocks and beatings in a prison likened to a “haunted house” in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Americans whose fundamental human rights it has badly violated did not yet get their apology from UAE authorities although they have being acquitted after two years of arbitrary detention. The Eldarats were among a group of Libyan businessmen rounded up just days after UAE and Egyptian planes launched airstrikes in Libya.

The Eldarats deny supporting any armed group in the country, which the UAE contends are linked to terrorism. The UAE has become more aggressive in fighting Islamist groups since the 2011 Arab Spring sparked revolution across the Arab world, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood The Eldarats were accused of funding -- Libya Dawn, and the February 17 Martyrs Brigade, which was once hired to protect the U.S. consulate in Benghazi -- have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
