UAE: 4500 Human Rights Violations During 2015

In 2015, the Emirates Media and Studies Centre (EMASC) reported 4426 human rights violations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) including forced disappearance, illegal detention, and torture of political prisoners.

In addition to 29 forced disappearance cases including five Emirati women.

The report showed that 73 activists were convicted and jailed during 2015 under the cyber-crime law that was enacted in the UAE in 2012 to restrict the work of human rights defenders.

Furthermore, the report documented approximately 2800 human rights violations in UAE prisons against 80 political prisoners and 600 violations against their families.

Over the last few years, 18 complaints of torture were made by political prisoners including 24 different types of cruel, inhumane ill-treatment and torture in UAE secret detention centres.
