UAE 94 notorious mass trial exposes the dark reality of the UAE
On the fourth anniversary of the start of UAE94 trial, the International Campaign for Freedom in the United Arab Emirates (ICFUAE) calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all Emirati political activists convicted at the unfair mass trial which was deeply flawed and was widely condemned by various human rights bodies and international human rights organisations.
The UAE 94 trial, which began on 4 March 2013 before the State Security Chamber of the Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi, saw a total of 94 defendants, including eight who were charged and tried in absentia, stand trial en masse on the charge of legitimately exercising their rights to freedom of association and assembly.
According to Article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights "everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association."
