UAE deports Mauritanian poet over social media activism

The Emirati authorities deported the Mauritanian poet Abulallah Weld Buna to his country after sharing a poem criticising the Mauritanian president, family sources revealed.

The poet, who was living in the UAE over the past three years, was arrested on December 10 by Emirati security officials and deported to his country last Thursday.

Weld Buna’s family expressed deep concern over the fate of their son especially that his whereabouts remain unknown till the time of writing.
