As UAE meets with GCC states this week, human rights remain absent from the agenda

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will participate this week in the the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) summit scheduled to be held in Bahrain amidst clampdown of freedom of expression in the country.

However, the controversial human rights record of the UAE remain absent from its agenda.

The British PM Theresa May also declared her participation in the two-day summit.

A large-scale campaign declared by rights groups raised concerns over May's participation as her hosts, including UAE, were sharply criticised for the way they suppressed protests during the Arab Spring.
