UAE strip Ahmed Mansoor of family visitation rights in response to hunger strike

The Emirati authorities have stripped Ahmed Mansoor of his family visitation rights in retaliation to his month-long hunger strike in UAE’s al-Sadr prison.

The prominent Emirati human rights defender is currently protesting against his poor detention conditions and unfair trial, in which he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his social media activity.

It has been reported that since being detained two years ago, Mansoor has been held in solitary confinement in a cell which has no bed, nor access to running water or a shower.

Prior to his arrest, Ahmed Mansoor was one of the few voices that provided a credible assessment of human rights developments in the country. He regularly exposed practices of arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances and torture, in close coordination with the UN and international rights groups.

As he passes four weeks on hunger strike, ICFUAE urgently call on the UAE authorities to allow international NGOs access to al-Sadr prison to ensure Mansoor is being treated in line with international standards.
