UAE's Al-Ummah Party, Hassan al-Duqqi, sentenced to 10 years in absentia

 The Gulf News revealed that Abu Dhabi Federal Appeals Court sentenced Wednesday Hassan al-Duqqi, the Islah co-founder who now heads the UAE's Ummah party, in absentia to 10 years’ imprisonment and a Dh10-million fine.

Al-Duqqi, who is now a fugitive from the UAE and reportedly living in Turkey, was charged of allegedly "trying to establish a political party and opening its branches in the UAE." He was also accused of "encouraging people to overthrow the UAE Government."

He was also charged with posting "false articles and information on his websites and social media accounts to promote his political party, and insulting the UAE’s polices and national icons and damaged the UAE’s relationship with other Arab countries."

The court also ordered confiscation of his electronic equipment.
