UN experts: Yemeni prisoners sexually abused in UAE-run jails

In a statement televised by Al Jazeera this week, the chairman of the Group of Regional and International Eminent Experts on Yemen, Kamel Jendoubi, confirmed the involvement of UAE forces in the sexual abuse of detainees, including girls and women, held in secret prisons in the south of Yemen.

The group of UN experts documented 37 cases of sexual violence committed by the UAE-backed security forces and Emirati personnel.

“We have 600 testimonies and huge documents and reports of international institutions to indicate violations in Yemen,” Jendoubi said.

Last week, the Group of Eminent Experts on Yemen, mandated to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged crimes perpetrated by all parties in the conflict, published its detailed findings in a new report, condemning the UAE and Saudi Arabia as culpable in committing gross human rights violations and possible war crimes in Yemen.
