US House votes to block arms sales to Saudi Arabia and UAE

The US House of Representatives on Wednesday approved resolutions blocking the sale of guided missiles and other weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), amid credible allegations of war crimes in Yemen.

The resolution seeks to block the sale of US-made Raytheon precision-guided munitions (PGM) and other related equipment to the two countries.

Wednesday's vote is the latest effort by Congress to put an end to the war in Yemen, which has claimed the lives of over 70,000 since it began in 2015. In its latest annual report, the UN said that 75 civilian casualties were reported each week and more than 274,000 had been displaced since the start of 2019 alone.
