As 2017 comes to a close, the UAE government is unwilling to stop abuses, enabling them to continue largely unabated.

During 2017, the right to freedom of opinion and expression was further criminalised in the country, where human rights defenders were either arrested or sentenced over their rights activism.

Despite repeated calls from international organisations demanding the UAE to stop its brutal practices, UAE authorities continue to defy the norms, and violate international law.
