WATCH: Israeli Athletes Will Compete in Abu Dhabi Under Israeli Flag
For the first time in an Arab country, Israeli athletes will compete in a sports competition after the UAE authorities allowed the Israeli flag and national anthem in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam 2018 which will take place in October 27-29.
In July, the International Judo Federation cancelled the tournaments in the UAE and Tunisia over “anti-Israel discrimination.”
However, the IJF announced that the UAE national federation reconsidered its decision, claiming “all nations participating in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam will have the possibility to do so in equal conditions.”
Arab and Muslim countries regularly prevent Israeli athletes’ participation in such sports competition, considering it a sort of normalisation with Israel.
