Quarterly Briefing (October - December 2017)
During the last quarter of 2017 the Emirati authorities continued to disregard their responsibilities to upload basic human rights. Prisoners of conscience have seen their sentences extended and one Egyptian national was deported to Egypt after the completion of his sentence, where he faces further persecution. There has been a worrying increase in documented suicides of migrant workers, causing further concern amongst human rights organisations regarding their working and living conditions.
