Ahmed Mansoor transferred to al-Sader prison

The prominent human rights defender Ahmed Mansoor was transferred Tuesday to al-Sadr prison in Abu Dhabi, one of the most heavily guarded prisons in the UAE.

The winner of the 2015 Laureate Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders Mansoor has been arbitrarily detained by the UAE authorities from his house on March 20.

His arrest follows his calls for the release of prisoners of conscience including Osama Al-Najjar, who was due to be released on March 17 but remains imprisoned.

Ahmed's arrest is in contravention of international law against enforced disappearances and violates his rights to freedom of expression.

The ICFUAE organized last week a vigil at the UAE Embassy in London amid large participation of supporters from all over the country, calling for the immediate release of Ahmed Mansoor.
