Amina Al-Abdouli Declares Hunger Strike
In an audio recording leaked out of Abu Dhabi’s al-Wathba prison, Emirati female prisoner Amina Abdouli said she has been waging a hunger strike for more than a month in protest against her ill-treatment and difficult detention conditions.
Amina confirmed she has been on a hunger strike since 23 February 2020 after being convicted in a new case related to leaked recordings issued last year.
Amina accused the prison authorities of torturing and isolating her along with Maryam al-Balushi for more than two months where they were both deprived of their most basic rights as female prisoners by preventing them from using certain feminine necessities.
Amina, who suffers from kidney failure and severe liver damage, has been subjected to deliberate medical negligence during her detention.
