Calls Raised for the Release of UAE Lawyer Mohamed al-Roken

Human rights lawyer and University Professor Dr. Mohammed Al Roken was put in Al Rezin prison since 2012 following his conviction by the State Security Chamber of the Federal Supreme Court who sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment for attempting to overthrow the government.

Indeed, Emirati authorities could not tolerate the fact that Dr. Mohammed Al-Roken advocated his time protecting Universal Human Rights and defending prisoners of conscience especially the “UAE5” who were accused of publicly insulting UAE reputation and institutions.

Dr Mohammed al-Roken was subject to several rights violations by Emirati authorities. In fact, he was forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily arrested along with his son Rashid Mohammed al Roken and his son in law Abdullah Al-Hajri and prevented from family and lawyer visits. He was also denied the right to treatment and was exposed to several forms of harassment and abuse in addition to being tried without fair trial guarantees before the State Security Chamber of the Federal Supreme Court which is an unusual court where judgments are final without any appeal.

Expressing solidarity with Dr Mohammed al-Roken is defending the dignity of a lawyer as well as his personal and professional safety.
