The UAE authorities have arrested five citizens in April 2011, including Dr.Nasser bin Ghaith, on the pretext that their participation in one of the forums has "insulted the Prince of Abu Dhabi"

Human rights activists have showed solidarity with Dr. Nasser bin Ghaith, on the occasion of his first year arrest anniversary after he was forcedly put into arbitrary detention in the UAE.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Nasser bin Ghaith is an economic and an academic expert. He also works as a legal adviser in the UAE military field.

In their tweets, Activists demanded the immediate release of bin Ghaith, who last appeared when he stood before the State Security Department in the Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi, after being kept for about eight months in a secret prison in the UAE.

According to human rights reports and statements delivered by the International Center for Justice and Human Rights, Dr. bin Ghaith was subjected to torture and ill-treatment.

The Emirati opposition criticised the arrest of Dr Nasser saying that he only expressed his opinion and is now being tried on baseless charges

Ahmed Mansour said that Dr Nasser's comments about the Egyptian situation have not gained the approval of some so they decided to manipulate the laws against him, accusing him of terrorism and of threatening the state security.

Ali Belhasa also said in reference to Dr Bin Ghaith that "the most prominent thinkers and reformers in the UAE is detained because of a tweet in which he denounced the construction of a temple."

he also exclaimed : "enforced disappearances, torture in secret prisons, Sleep deprivation, in addition to prayer prohibition.. and all of this because of a tweet! ".

It is also important to note that dozens of Emirati detainees among which we find a majority of academics, were sentenced to prison
