Macron urged to pressure UAE over human rights abuses in Yemen

Rights groups have urged French President Emanuel Macron to raise allegations of war crimes in Yemen when he meets Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed in Paris on Wednesday.

The French President must stop supplying the UAE with weapons and munitions if there is a risk of them being used to violate international law, said human rights groups in a joint statement released Tuesday.

France is considered to be one of the leading suppliers of arms to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, who lead the military campaign in Yemen.

Rights groups have warned that these arms sales have exacerbated the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen.

The UAE plays a prominent role in the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen, which has created the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, according to the UN.
