UAE authorities refuse imprisoned cancer patient’s appeal for early release

The UAE authorities once again refused to grant the female political prisoner Alia Abdel Nour, who is suffering from cancer, early release on health grounds.

This follows an appeal from Alia last month to be released on health grounds.

The Arab Organisation for Human Rights slammed the UAE’s refusal to grant the appeal, saying that it not only violated international legislation, but the UAE’s own Federal Laws.

Family sources told the International Centre for Justice and Human Rights that Alia was transferred on January 10 from Mafraq to Tawam hospital without receiving prior notice.

They said that Alia has now been left to die in isolation.

Alia is currently serving a 10 year prison sentence in the UAE on terrorism charges after publicly raising money for refugees.
