Violations reported during Bin Ghaith's latest court hearing

Dr Nasser bin Ghaith appeared for the first time before the Federal Appeal Court in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday the 18th of January 2017.

The hearing was adjourned to 22 of Feb, 2017, rights sources affirmed, reporting a number of violations of fair trial standards.

The sources pointed out that the hearing was a quick session, during which the charges were not even announced while the bail request was totally ignored.

Though the court is the Federal Appeal Court, the hearing was held in the same building of the Supreme Court. Only the judges were replaced by new ones headed by an Egyptian judge.

Only government-owned media and very limited number of family members were allowed to attend the session, according to the sources.

Bin Ghaith was arrested in August 2015 for his peaceful criticism on Twitter of Egyptian and Emirati authorities.
