MP Raises Question on Ahmed Mansoor

On 23 March 2017, British MP Andy Slaughter asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs about the representations the Government have made to the Government of United Arab Emirates on the detention of Emirati human rights defender Ahmed Mansoor in that country.

On 28 March 2017,  Mr Tobias Ellwood answered that the British government is "aware of this case and is following it closely. 

"We have raised before to the Emiratis the importance of due process in criminal proceedings, upholding international standards of justice and ensuring the human rights of all Emirati citizens are fully respected, including the rights of freedom of expression and association," he added.
