EU donates 5 million Euros to UAE-based Hedayah centre

Batrizio Fundy, Ambassador of the European Union mission to the UAE, said that the European Union has earlier declared intention to donate 5 million Euros to UAE-based Hedayah centre, stressing the importance of respecting human rights in combating extremism.

Speaking exclusively to Alitihad local newspaper, Fundy hailed the Emirati efforts in fighting terrorism, appreciating the UAE’s partnership in the international coalition against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Fundy said that the EU is donating 5 million Euros to UAE-based, Hedayah, to help the organisation in its efforts to fight extremism through its wide reaching network.

The contribution aims to allow Hedayah fund social, non-governmental organisations to communicate, spread awareness, provide better analysis, and reach out to youth, according to him.

In its whats so called ‘fight against extremism and terrorism,’ UAE banned many of non-violent organisations and sent dozens of human rights activists to jail including journalists, lawyers, judges, and bloggers.
