Guards Attack Detainees in al-Rezin Prison

The Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR) and the International Center for Justice and Human Rights (ICJHR) reported in two seperate press statements that serious human rights violations have taken place against prisoners of conscience arbitrarily held in al-Rezin prison.

The International Center for Justice and Human Rights affirmed that on Thursday 25May at 2am, Nepali security guards were ordered to conduct a search raid in ward 7 of al-Rezin prison, where prisoners of conscience are held.

The prisoners were stripped searched and brutally attacked during the raid, the center added.

The London-based AOHR-UK confirmed this information and reported that political prisoners and activists held in al-Rezin prison were subjected to mistreatment and humiliation as well as rights violation during the night raid.

The organisation pointed out that the detainees are being subjected to torture and mis-treatment throughout their investigations, trial, and sentence.

It also noted that a number of detainees declared an open hunger strike in protest against their difficult detention conditions and the ill-treatment they are subjected to.
