Six political prisoners end prison sentence in August, not released yet

In August 2022, six prisoners of conscience ended their prison sentences in UAE jails, but were not released by Emirati authorities till time of writing.

The prisoners were sent to the s-called Counselling Centres, in yet another violation of human rights and the principles of the rule of law.

More than 40 political prisoners are continued to be held in the UAE despite completing their prison sentence. They remain held in flagrant violation of national and international laws.

The United Arab Emirates repeatedly holds political prisoners in detention beyond the end of their official sentences, this is called “indefinite detention”.

Those indefinitely detained remain arrested without due process, which violates international law - namely the right to liberty and the right to a fair trial.
