UAE authorities extend detention of five prisoners of conscience

The International Centre for Justice and Human Rights (ICJHR) revealed that UAE authorities extended the detention of five prisoners of conscience for six months.

The prisoners were identified as Osama Al-Najjar, Abdullah Al-Heloo, Faisal Al-Shehi, Badr Al-Bahari and Ahmad Al-Mulla.

It is worth to mentioning that Osama Al-Najjar is still being held in UAE jail despite having completed his three-year prison sentence.

Al-Najjar was arrested on 17 March 2014 and sentenced to three years in prison after sending tweets to the Minister of Interior expressing concern that his father had been ill-treated in prison

Amnesty International has earlier considered UAE authorities’ decision not to release Al-Najjar as “indefensible,” calling for his immediate release.
